Well tonight was definitely one for the books. I will never forget Halloween 2018!Earlier tonight a lady posted on the Monterra site that there were some boys dressed in black running around stealing kids Halloween candy.
So I read this post just as my doorbell rang tonight. My mom and I were saying how polite all the kids were. When I opened the door the kids said trick or treat and while waiting for me to hand them candy the youngest a little girl said my brothers having a sad night and I said oh I’m sorry why? She started to tell me someone stole all his candy and the older brother was trying to tell his little sister not to bring it up as he said this he told me the story about his younger brother having his candy stolen and the boy was slowly walking up my driveway. I dumped the rest of the bowl in his almost empty pillow case (which was only about 5 mini chocolate bars) and told him how extremely sorry I was. The look on his sorrowed red face blotchy with tears was enough to choke me up.
When I closed the door Gabby was standing at the top of the stairs and said mom that’s terrible why did someone steal his candy? She had heard the whole conversation. She came down and we talked about it and she asked if she could give him her candy. So tough to have these conversations with our innocent children. The kids said they were just finishing up so we weren’t sure we would find them but we went out to see. To our luck we found them and when I drove up to a mom, dad and young boy the boy was no longer trick or treating he was standing with his parents. You could tell he was too upset. I told him and his parents that my daughter would like to give him her candy and they began using sign language. My daughter gave him her candy and he was speechless I said I hope we were able to make this Halloween a good one for you again and he said “I don’t know what to say” his parents were signing to him and he said thank you several times. We drove away and Gabby burst into tears she was so thrilled to make him smile tonight and said how good it felt. I can’t even believe that this happened this evening and I pray that all these kids had a much better night. Sometime being a parent really is challenging. Unfortunately we can’t shelter them forever and this was a hard thing for my poor kind-hearted girl to learn tonight. I am one proud mom.
