February 12: It’s the ultimate showdown, as Cochrane High and Bow Valley High face off in Canada’s favourite pastime on the SLS Family Sports Centre ice. It’s the 18th edition of the Crowchild Classic charity hockey game, a student-led initiative with funds directed toward the Cochrane Activettes and their food bank. With a 4 p.m. start time, it’s a good event for young families looking for a special afternoon out while contributing to their community.

February 13: It’s another lesson in the Nakoda Language Class 101.2 series at the Cochrane RancheHouse. The Nakoda language is spoken by an estimated 5000-8000 people, many of which reside on the Stoney Nakoda nation. Cultural Advisor and Tribal Historian Buddy Wesley is an excellent storyteller, weaving accounts of cultural history throughout the lessons, which includes fundamentals like linguistic sounds and the alphabet. It’s the third class in this series, but Wesley says that first-timers will still find plenty of value in attending. The class runs from 7:00-8:30 p.m.. February 15: Things are about to get a little sillier in your gateway to the Kananaskis. The auditorium at the Bragg Creek Community Centre transforms into a comedy club for Comedy Night in the Creek!, hosted by the hamlet’s community association. The evening features three professional comics: Adam Blank, Malik Elassal and Brad Semotiuk. Tickets for the 18+ event can be purchased for $25 by searching ‘Bragg Creek comedy’ on Facebook.com or Eventbrite.ca. The shows run from 6:30-8:30 p.m..

February 19: The Cochrane Historical and Archival Preservation Society (CHAPS) and the Lions Club get together at the Cochrane Museum (the brick building at the southeast corner of the Cochrane Ranche) to have a talk on the history of the Lions Club’s classic rodeo. They’ll be bringing rodeo-related material out of the museum’s archives as well. The rodeo, held every Labour Day weekend, has been an annual staple of the town’s events calendar since 1966. The short talk will begin at 7 p.m..
