February 12: It’s the ultimate showdown, as Cochrane High and Bow Valley High face off in Canada’s favourite pastime on the SLS Family Sports Centre ice. It’s the 18th edition of the Crowchild Classic charity hockey game, a student-led initiative with funds directed toward the Cochrane Activettes and their food bank. With a 4 p.m. start time, it’s a good event for young families looking for a special afternoon out while contributing to their community.
February 13: It’s another lesson in the Nakoda Language Class 101.2 series at the Cochrane RancheHouse. The Nakoda language is spoken by an estimated 5000-8000 people, many of which reside on the Stoney Nakoda nation. Cultural Advisor and Tribal Historian Buddy Wesley is an excellent storyteller, weaving accounts of cultural history throughout the lessons, which includes fundamentals like linguistic sounds and the alphabet. It’s the third class in this series, but Wesley says that first-timers will still find plenty of value in attending. The class runs from 7:00-8:30 p.m.. There is a fee, but also an opportunity to have the fee waived. More information is available at Cochrane.ca/634/Program-Activity-Guide.
