Cochrane, it’s time to participate in the virtual Light Up

A virtual version of the annual local Light Up festival is set for December 5. The local holiday favourite will be broadcast on, and no account should be required.

To kick things off on the Saturday evening, organizers are looking to get the party started with the ‘Light Up Wave.’ It’s like doing ‘the wave’ at a Flames game, but with Christmas lights, and on a much larger canvas.

Organizers have split neighbourhoods into six groups, at which point they’ll be looking for those communities to bring the Christmas energy for a five-minute period.

“Watch us as we call on your communities to turn on your lights, go outside, bang your pots and pans, and make some noise!” reads the event’s Facebook page.

“Send us your pictures: of your lights, your hot dogs, your firepits, your hot chocolate. We’ll collect all your pictures and four random draws will be done and the winners will receive fantastic gifts from local Cochrane businesses!”

The ‘North’ division is first at 5:15 p.m.: Monterra, Camden Lane, Range Road 43, Sunset Ridge, Sunset, Cochrane Heights and Sunterra.

The ‘West’ is next at 5:20: Heritage Hills, Heartland, West Terrace, West Point, West Valley, and the Ag Society area.

Organizers encourage Cochranites to get their hot dogs and hot chocolate ready for December 5 and tune in to the live broadcast complete with “surprises” at beginning at 5 p.m..
