Representatives of the local firefighters union and the Town of Cochrane sat down, Mar. 26, for the first time since mid-2012 for formal discussions on their outstanding collective agreement.
Jared Wallace, president of Local 4819 of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), said it was friendly meeting and an opportunity to discuss where the two parties were at and where to go to from here.
“The town and us are hoping to come to an agreement,” said Wallace. “That’s what we’re both attempting to do.”
While not directly involved with the negotiations, Mayor Truper McBride concurred with the statement.
Negotiations for the collective agreement began in January 2011 and the two parties haven’t meet since June 2012. It’s slated to go to arbitration this fall.
